About Me
Look deeper into the pool'. Paintings, thoughts and musings of a Yorkshire based artist.

No one else is in here, there is you and I. Only through us and only through our chosen medium can the other world reach out, express and reveal itself.
David Robertson. BA:Hon’s, MA. PGCE.
Studied Fine art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. I have previously exhibited my work in both Scotland, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
I just recently retired from a career teaching Art to concentrate on my own work and ideas.
I believe Folklore is a gateway to the past but it is not a straight or narrow path and has to be explored, used as a jumping off point. Only then will it begin to reveal the wealth of knowledge hidden behind the form of the present incarnation.
Methodology
From the very beginnings of my life the pure magic of nature has inspired me but only recently have I realised and found my way of working, pulling together a myriad of thoughts, ideas, interpretations and learnings.
The chosen or given landscape has its own daily and seasonal life. The wildlife, the environment is ever changing, ephemeral and yet also over time remains a constant. I immerse myself in this place, becoming familiar with its inhabitants, tranquility and the storm. Wildlife, birds especially become nameable, recognisable as individuals. I record my observations with my camera and capture the feeling of these moments through Haiku poetry, drawings and musings.
I research the history, folklore, stories and changing surfaces of this environment, putting together a picture of a place, my view, my interpretation, informative and yet fleeting, a glimpse of something almost unseen but known.
I use a wide variety of methods to record and produce my work including traditional art mediums and industrial materials. From inks and oil paints to bitumen and emulsion, mostly this is on canvas.
Mostly I am working on this theme but I do take commissions so feel free to contact me with your specific wishes.
